🏉 Our History – Swanley RFC

Swanley RFC was established in 2017 with the ambition to bring grassroots rugby to the heart of Swanley and surrounding areas. From humble beginnings, the club has quickly grown into a vibrant, inclusive, and competitive community.

🌱 Founded with a Purpose

Backed by strong support from Swanley Town Council, the club was founded to:

Offer accessible rugby to players of all ages and abilities
Promote the core values of the Rugby Football Union — Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, and Sportsmanship
Build a social and sporting hub for the local community

🏟️ Building a Home

From day one, the Swanley Recreation Ground has been the club’s training and match day base. Over time, the club has invested in facilities, equipment, and development programs to ensure both players and spectators enjoy a safe and welcoming environment.

In 2025, Swanley RFC received a significant boost with a £275,000 investment, made possible through collaboration with the Town Council, to secure a permanent home and shared clubhouse — marking a major step in the club’s growth.

🧒 Youth & Community

At the heart of the club’s vision is youth development. Swanley RFC proudly runs free youth rugby sessions every Sunday throughout the season, welcoming children from all backgrounds to learn, grow, and have fun through sport.

The club has also expanded to host free boot camps, social events, and charity initiatives.

🏆 Competitive Spirit

The Men’s First XV has established itself in the Kent Metropolitan and Rural Leagues, building a strong team culture that blends competition with camaraderie. Off the pitch, the club’s social calendar and end-of-season events — including the annual Oval Ball — have become key highlights in the local calendar.

Committee and Key Roles

🏛️ Club Management & Governance

Swanley RFC is proudly run by a dedicated group of volunteers who form our Executive Committee, supported by several sub-committees. These teams work together to oversee all aspects of the club — from rugby operations and safeguarding to events, communications, and community outreach.

📋 Committee Structure

The Executive Committee (Exec) is responsible for overall club governance and decision-making.
Sub-committees manage specific areas and report directly to the Exec to ensure smooth and effective club operations.

🗳️ Annual General Meeting (AGM)

All committee positions are elected annually at the Club’s AGM by our members.
